Hudson Gavin Martin nominated as finalist in the ALB Australasian 2009 Law Awards

Hudson Gavin Martin is proud to have been nominated as a finalist in the ALB Australasian 2009 Law Awards.  The firm is a finalist for Australasian Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year and is the only New Zealand firm in the category.  The awards night is held in Sydney on 21 May 2009 and is the premier event for the Australian and New Zealand legal profession, recognizing and celebrating the successes of the past year.

Contracting out of the commissioning rule and Maxim Group v Jones Publishing

The commissioning rule in the Copyright Act 1994 automatically allocates copyright ownership to the “commissioner” for artistic works, film or sound recordings, and computer programs.  Parties can however contract out of this default rule. Maxim Group v Jones Publishing is a recent High Court decision which provides a warning to parties wishing to contract out of the default rule.

ALT GROUP WINS DESIGN OSCAR IN NEW YORK

Auckland based multidisciplinary design firm and Hudson Gavin Martin client, Alt Group, has beaten off stiff international competition, scooping a coveted Gold Cube Award at last Thursday night’s (April 30) influential Art Directors Club (ADC) Awards in New York. Alt Group was the only New Zealand design company to pick up a prize at this year’s ADC Awards.
