Toby Cartwright

Senior Solicitor

Toby’s main areas of practice are corporate and commercial, technology and intellectual property.

Toby has broad experience in corporate acquisitions, fund-raising transactions (both debt and equity), various commercial arrangements (including supply and distribution, services, joint ventures, sponsorship, marketing) and technology and intellectual property arrangements (including intellectual property licensing, software and SaaS agreements, design and development, outsourcing, support and maintenance agreements as well as privacy and data protection).

Toby joined Hudson Gavin Martin in October 2017.  Prior to joining the firm, Toby spent 2.5 years in London, where he worked as in-house counsel at a regulated FinTech startup, Growth Street and a project consultancy, IPA Advisory. In each of these roles Toby was the sole full-time legal counsel and so he understands the value in giving practical and commercial, risk-based advice to clients.

Toby began his career in 2012 at Minter Ellison Rudd Watts where he was in the Banking & Financial Services and Corporate teams until late 2014. Toby graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2012 with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology).
